Concerning Snotty-Nosed Bebe Kids from the Hood, Physical Education, and God’s Perfect Plan

I spend a portion of each weekday providing physical education to children in kindergarten through 5th grade at a school in the most economically vulnerable part of town.  Most of my classes are able to enjoy an incredibly fun experience. However, I have a few classes where the students have to hear “Coach Rod” repeat himself over and over again along with sitting kids out of the activities because of their inability to practice respect and obedience.

I am grieved when I have a plan for class that I know the kids would enjoy but aren’t able to because of their own disobedience.   Constantly having to stop class because of a disruption hinders the completion of the lesson plan that is both of physical benefit and a source of joy.  Obedience to the plan leads to joy, disobedience to the plan leads to a missed opportunity.

Likewise, my Father in heaven has a lifelong plan for each of us that will be a source of joy.  “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”  (Jeremiah 29:11) His will is also “good, pleasing, and perfect.”  (Romans 12:2).

If I am upset when my kids are not able to enjoy the mere 45 minute lesson plan I had for them, how much more so is the Father, who has a joy-filled ETERNAL plan for me and all mankind, grieved when we, like the student, willfully disobey and reject His good plans?

O, how often do I reject the good and perfect plans of the Father because I can actually momentarily convince myself that my more convenient plans are better?  Let us not continue to grieve our Father, but let us accept his perfect plan for our lives.  He loves us and wants the best for us.  I have enjoyed life SO MUCH more the past six years as I have trusted in the plans of the Lord. There is nothing like having a true foundation to lean on when life gets tough. There is nothing like having guidance when you need to make a life changing decision. Our Lord died on the cross with his ARMS OPEN, making it possible for us to come to the Father and little by little learn and trust in his marvelous plans for all of our lives (John 14:6 & 17:3).  Amen.

  1. WOW! This is real talk man! I remember and can so easily relate to being frustrated at kids that I work with when they cannot experience what was planned for their enjoyment because of their disobedience…HUGE! And tying that into our relationship with God…icing on the cake. I see how we miss opportunities and our most joyous moments because of ourselves…Wow! Thanks my dude!

    • yeah man glad we can gain mutual revelation from this post
